Londorossi Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp
Register at Londorossi Gate and drive to the trailhead, then trek through lush montane rainforest to Mti Mkubwa ("Big Tree") Camp.
Mti Mkubwa to Shira 1 Camp
Climb out of the forest onto the open moorland of the Shira Plateau, camping with sweeping views back toward the Shira Ridge.
Shira 1 to Shira 2 Camp
A gentle acclimatization day crossing the Shira Plateau, with Kibo's summit coming into full view for the first time.
Shira 2 to Barranco Camp via Lava Tower
Climb high to the Lava Tower (4,600m) for acclimatization, then descend into the dramatic Barranco Valley to camp beneath the Barranco Wall.
Barranco to Karanga Camp
Scramble up the Barranco Wall in the morning, then cross rolling ridges to Karanga Camp, your last water point before summit night.
Karanga to Barafu Camp
A shorter trekking day to Barafu ("Base") Camp, resting and preparing your gear ahead of the summit push that begins after midnight.
Barafu to Summit & Descent to Mweka Gate
Set off just after midnight for the final ascent to Uhuru Peak, Africa's highest point, watching sunrise from the summit before descending all the way to Mweka Camp and out through Mweka Gate.
